‘I think I spent 30 years of my life- the first 30 trying to become something. I wanted to become good at things, I wanted to become good at tennis and school and grades. And everything I kinda viewed in that perspective- I’m not okay the way I am, but if I got good at things… … I realized that I had the game wrong, because the game was to find out what I already was.’

This phrase – heard at the Zeitgeist documentary – haunts me every day since I saw that movie about 6 months ago. But enough with me. In case you haven’t seen it here it is:

The Fountain

Every so and then it happens that one is confronted with a work of art that stamps her for a lifetime. You may know that it is so right on or you might need some time before realizing it.

The stamp left on me by The Fountain was of the former kind. I knew it the moment I was heading for the theater exit. Not an easy task as my mind was like a calm night with snowflakes swirling around.

I had read a critic before going to see the movie and I must admit that it was one of the rare times when I found a critic’s advice useful. The advice was this “this movie is firstly seen with the heart and afterwards with the eyes”.

HEART of the BEHOLDER has won more Best Feature Film awards than any other independent movie ever, but has been banned from theaters and video stores because of pressure from religious extremists.
